Sporting Life to Real Life

The camaraderie and lifelong friendships formed from sport is undeniable!

Take a moment to close your eyes and reflect back on your younger self.

Remember when you were 18-20 years old. You were finishing up your summer preparation to report back to college. For fall sports like volleyball and football the quick change from the summer schedule to a regimented practice with demanding coaches could make your head spin! The days of sleeping in and starting your day slowly were interrupted with the sounds of coaches knocking on your dorm room door at a very early hour!

The percentage of athletes that move on from college to professional ranks is very small.

According to the NCAA: Football: 1.7% of college players play professionally, 0.08% of high school players do High school players: 1,108,441

College players: 67,887

Draftees: 255

Transitioning from that environment into the real world (aka adulting) takes some adapting. Lifestyle factors and the physical demands often dramatically change to support the new function of the former athlete.

Now what?

You had a strength and conditioning coach that designed your training for the summer off-season as well as the in-season training to keep you ready for your role on the team.

Where do you go from here?

Do you take the knowledge you gained as a former athlete and do this solo?

Often, the Internet is the answer and your friend "Google" will likely give you some options.

Simply type some keywords that are important to you:

-weight loss

-increased energy

-injury prevention

-personal trainer

-boosting testosterone

One search item that is not as widely used but is growing in popularity is Individual Design.

We would like to introduce Tim Baack.

Tim is a former college football player from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Sports have always been a big part of Tim's life. When he concluded his playing career he was faced with some of these same questions. He tried them all and has found his home with Individual Design at Elkhorn Valley Fitness and OPEX Omaha West.

Learn more about Tim's story and his journey from college athletics to group classes in a CrossFit model to Individual Design in the upcoming posts on our page.

Enjoy your trip down your own memory lane! Call, email, or text one of your teammates today and thank them for a memory that came to mind today!
